I first became interested in Web Design stuff a few years back but until I finally got my own computer in February 2000, I couldn't do much about it. Having said that, once I took delivery of my PC and Internet package I proceeded to spend the next couple of months wasting ridiculous amounts of time on the net, either surfing or haunting chat rooms.Once I got that out of my system..... I settled down to learn what I could about HTML and Web Design in general...... Hmmmm. I have recently come to the conclusion the more I learn about it, the more completely clueless I think I am..... However, I shall persevere..... I wouldn't mind doing this professionally (let's face it ANYTHING is better than working for the bloody Tax office, especially right now...) but that's a long way down the track.... Still have so much to learn. I need to learn more about HTML, DHTML, XML, SHTML, Javascript, Graphics Applications (IE how to get the most out of them), Browser compatibility (or lack of.... Grrrrrrr bloody "Browser Wars!!!") and above all, How all this crap hangs together in the "Web World".....!!! The question is where to start??? In other words, I'm not so much a "WebMaster", more a "Geek In Training"..... (heheheheh) Moving right along now.... Below are some examples of web pages I have built. The first is a "Splash screen" I knocked up for my friend Alan the Armourer (See "Lion Rampant" page) when I discovered that a site was already "under construction" by one of the other members. (None other than Paul C who did the *Official* Lion Rampant homepage) Click on the Falcons Forge image & you'll see the Splash screen... but that's it! I will hyperlink it IF and when it eventually goes online...... (Natch) The second is for my friend Chris, who makes Boxing Shorts, fighters clothing and other Sports Uniforms from home. The third is for my friends in "Timbrel" (as mentioned on my "Photography" page) The quasi-medieval/folk vocal ensemble. I have just finished a site for "The Robert James DeBurgh (Poet) Appreciation Society"... Something a deranged mate of mine from work dreamed up. DeBurgh is a fictitious Victorian Era "Poet" (and I use the term loosely) who spent (roughly) the last half of the 19th century wandering about the Middle East writing Godawful poetry. It's very silly, very tongue in cheek and lots of fun. After working on it (off & on) for nearly 7 months, it was finally uploaded 18/10/2001. Still tweaking it....
The Stanthorpe Crafters & Hobbyists Association Inc, of which my Mum is currently El Presidenté, commissioned me (for a carton of beer, Jeez I work cheap...!!) to build a website for them to promote their monthly Market in the Mountains. The Association itself is a "not for profit" organisation and they seem pretty happy with what I've done so far. I even get an email link as Herr Webmeister! Woo hoo!
Hope you like what you've seen and I hope to continue to update this page on a regular basis... Cheers MD P.S. Many thanx to Paul C & Rob H for their advice/tips etc re HTML generally and to PAW for fixing some Javascript for me. (still haven't got my head around it yet... not enough hours in the day)
